Academic Area Champions

The Caney Valley High School Academic team won the their 9th Area Championship Saturday, January 16, 2010 by defeating Chouteau-Maize 190-180, 1st ranked Perry 290-130, and 2nd ranked Quapaw 170-100. Timothy H. led the scoring with 120 points. Molly M. followed closely with 90, and Kaela C. and Caleb K. added 10 points each.
Next on line for the Trojans is the state tournament in El Reno on February 6. This is the 16th time in the last 20 years that the Trojans have advanced to the state tournament. This year’s team is trying to build on the success of last year’s 3rd place state team with a state championship.
“All of the teams at the area tournament were evenly matched. The scores this year seem to be lower than last year due to the new questions provider, but so far we have had the highest team average in our districts, region, and area. It will be very interesting to see where we compared to the other area winners,” said 3rd year coach Martha Ward. “Our team will work very hard to make our community proud and bring home our 6th state championship.”
