New Program at MS/HS

Zeroes Aren’t Permitted (ZAP)

August 10, 2009

ZAP is a program through which the faculty and administration hope to reduce the number of students earning zeroes for their work.  If a student fails to turn in a homework assignment and receives a zero, he/she will be ZAPed and sent to study hall the following day.  The study hall will be conducted during the student’s lunch period.  The student will be given a ZAP form, a copy of which will be sent home to the parents, and may use the form to move to the front of the lunch line on the days they are to have study hall.  The student will take his/her lunch to the ZAP room and after eating lunch will work on the missing work.  The student will have a maximum of three study hall periods during lunch on which to work on the missing work.  If the student does not complete the work in the three days of study hall, he/she will receive no credit and will not be able to make up the work at a later date.

If a student is ZAPed and turns in the missing work before the first study hall is served, he/she will receive 75% credit for the work.  If the student serves study hall to complete the work, he/she will receive 50% credit for the work.  Failure to attend the assigned study hall(s) will result in after school detention.
