State Academic Tournament
The Caney Valley Varsity Academic team concluded their season Saturday, February 6, at the state tournament in El Reno. The team met number one seed Tushka and were defeated 180 to 280. Their next opponent, number four seed Sayre narrowly defeated the Trojans 180 to 210. Gage L led the Trojans in scoring with 90 points. Matt B and Jane M tallied 40 points apiece. Aaron M rounded out the day with 10 points.
Coach Ward is extremely proud of the hard work and dedication that her team put in. Ninety six 3A teams started out the season, and to compete in the state tournament is an extreme honor. The disappointment in not winning a trophy is eclipsed by the sadness that this is the last meet I will have with Matt, Jane, Gage, and Clay. It is similar to the emotions that a parent has when they send their babies off to college. I look forward to seeing what the future holds in store for each of them. Meanwhile, my underclassmen will focus on building on this year’s success. Thank you to all who encouraged and supported us this year.”
