Solar Eclipse

On Monday, August 21, 2017, many Caney Valley students will have the opportunity to go outside to view the Solar Eclipse.  Many of our classes, including our Trojan Time groups, are working on pinhole cameras.  No student will be able to participate without parent permission and students are responsible for following the viewing guidelines listed below.  If a student does not return the completed permission slip, they will not be allowed outside during the eclipse.

If you are opting for your student to be able to view the solar eclipse from outside using a pinhole camera, please go over the following safety points with them before they come to school that day.

*Since we are outside the path of totality, students must use their pinhole camera to view the sun indirectly.

*Students should NEVER be looking at the sun directly.

*The Eclipse doesn't last long.  Please make sure your student knows that this is something that won't happen again for a long time.  Express to them the importance of seeing an event like this and encourage them to stay focused on the event. They do not need to be playing around or have any distractions like food, toys, books, etc., outside with them while viewing the eclipse.
