Tulsa Regional STEM Alliance Challenge

CONGRATULATIONS!! The CV Middle School students swept all four categories with their STEM entries.

"The Tulsa Regional STEM Alliance challenged high school and middle school students across Green Country to develop solutions to real-world problems in this Hunger Games themed virtual event. Limited Engineering Toolkits were distributed for students to use to develop prototypes for their solutions. Students then submitted photos of their prototypes for a Facebook contest where they can earn prizes.

CHALLENGE SCENARIO: WILDFIRES
Fires are a very real and current threat to those who live on the West Coast. They can ruin homes and cause injuries or death to people and animals. Where can you see areas of improvement in education/prevention, warning residents, fighting fires, animal rescue, clean air, rebuilding after, etc.

CHALLENGE SCENARIO: CLEAN WATER
Lack of clean water is responsible for more deaths in the world than war. About 1 out of every 6 people living today do not have adequate access to water, and more than double that number lack basic sanitation, for which water is needed. In some countries, half the population does not have access to safe drinking water, and hence is afflicted with poor health. What ways do you think you could help people access clean water, through large scale filtration or smaller sanitation methods for families, education resources, reduce, reuse or recycle methods, etc.

CHALLENGE SCENARIO: STORMS
You may have noticed in the news that it’s hurricane season and we’re experiencing higher than normal rates, along with stronger storms. As an Oklahoma resident, you’re no stranger to tornados and the issues they cause our society. What issues do you see with predictability, safety, clean up, etc. related to severe storms and how do you think you can solve them?

CHALLENGE SCENARIO: CONNECTEDNESS
Due to the Global COVID-19 Pandemic, events or celebrations that have historically happened face-to-face are not always safe. Think about high school graduations, sporting events or even Halloween! What ways do you think you can help people feel connected in these challenging times?"
