Thursday Thoughts

April 29, 2021

Hello Trojan Family,

Holy Cow!  As a Chicago Cub fan, I used to love listening to Harry Carey as he provided play-by-play coverage of the Cubs on WGN.  You see, like many of you, I grew up with our usual 2, 6, and 8 television choices. (I didn’t count channel 11 because the only things to watch on there were Bob Ross painting and Justin Wilson cooking!)  Anyway, my grandparents installed a satellite dish at their house down the road.  It was one of the big ones like the one we will remove from the front of the high school this summer.  I could get off the bus at Grandma's and she would let me watch the end of the afternoon games.

There was a friendly rivalry between my brother and I, who loved the Cubs, and my Dad who almost every night would listen to Jack Buck provide the radio play by play of his beloved Cardinals.  In many ways our country is like my childhood, a house divided.  What I didn’t realize back then was no matter who you rooted for they were playing the same game.  Each team fielded 9 players.  Each at bat ended with 3 strikes, 4 balls, a hit, or an out.  Different color of uniforms, but the same love for the crack of the bat.  Different positions, but all working together to achieve the win.

In just three weeks we will honor our graduating class of 2021.  I want to thank the 2021 seniors for being great role models for our underclassmen.  I want to challenge them to be better today than they were yesterday. Be gracious and servant minded.  Be strong in your beliefs, and be focused on the path you are travelling.  Our seniors will be moving different directions after graduation.  However, I want to remind them that they may have different goals in life, but they will always be Caney Valley Trojans at heart.

As of today, we have only had a few positive cases of COVID within the past few weeks.  We will continue to be diligent in our efforts to mitigate the spread of the virus.  In order to continue with school in a normal manner, we will continue to ask all patrons to social distance when possible.  Wear a mask when distancing is not possible.  And, continue to practice good hand hygiene.  We look forward to hosting graduation for our seniors on May 20th at the football field.  Parents, thank you for trusting us with your students.  Do Good Things, and Go Trojans!
