Gretchen Morris is the Director of Bands for Caney Valley Public Schools. Prior to this appointment, she was Director of Bands for Sperry Public Schools for two years, Maysville Public Schools for six years and Bray-Doyle Public Schools for ten years. She also has taught General Music grades Pre-K through 4, Music Appreciation, and Advanced Placement Music Theory. Her tenure also includes two years as Instructor of Woodwinds (Applied Flute and Applied Clarinet) at the University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma. Additionally, she has served on the faculty of the Southwestern Oklahoma State University Music Camps since 1993. Her positions related to the camps include serving two years as Administrative Assistant in charge of the camp office (supervising counselors and coordinating housing for several hundred campers for Band Camp, Middle School Band Camp, String Camp, Guitar Camp, Double Reed Camp, Piano Camp, Color Guard Camp, Choir Camp, and Cheer Camp), conducting camp bands on three occasions, instructing a variety of classes and ensembles, and serving as a counselor during her undergraduate work. She also conducted the orchestra and taught Music Theory and Woodwinds at the Cedar Hills Baptist Music Camp at Hinton.

Ms. Morris was graduated summa cum laude with Bachelor of Music Education (Instrumental/General) and Master of Music Degrees from Southwestern Oklahoma State University. She also holds bus driver certification. During undergraduate school, she was a member of the Intercollegiate Honor Band, served as State Vice President of COMEA, and served in Tau Beta Sigma. A graduate of Healdton High School, she was a member of the OMEA All-State Band and the Oklahoma Summer Arts Institute Orchestra. She is a recipient of the State Superintendent’s Award for Arts Excellence and was twice selected as Bray-Doyle High School Teacher of the Year and Marlow Masonic Lodge Teacher of Today. In 2007, she was named Southwest Oklahoma Band Director of the Year and in 2008 served as President of Shortgrass Band Directors Association.  In 2007, her band at Bray-Doyle was selected to march in the National Independence Day Parade in Washington, D.C. While at Sperry, she led the band to the school’s first-ever State Championship in Band, earning the OSSAA Sweepstakes Award for Class 3A, including Superior Ratings at Pre-Regional and Regional Marching, Pre-District and District Concert and Sight-Reading, and State Concert and Sight-Reading Contests.

Ms. Morris is a member of the National Association for Music Education, Oklahoma Music Educators Association, National Education Association, Oklahoma Education Association, and Oklahoma Bandmasters Association. She has maintained an active schedule over the years, playing various instruments in community bands, church orchestras, and other ensembles, as well as keeping up a private lesson studio. In her spare time, she enjoys travel, writing, reading, and attending concerts.
