Caney Valley OLWEUS (Pronounced: Olvayus) Bullying Prevention Program

Welcome to the OLWEUS Bullying Prevention Program

The OLWEUS Bullying Prevention Program is based on the Internationally recognized program developed by Dan Olweus.  This program addresses bullying through awareness, education, and intervention steps.  The OLWEUS program involves a team consisting of Teachers/Administrators, Students, and Parents/Community members.  This page is dedicated to providing our community with information regarding this program:

Definition of bullying:  Bullying is when someone repeatedly and on purpose says or does mean or hurtful things to another person who has a hard time defending himself or herself.

Bullying involves:

    1.  Aggressive negative behavior

    2.  Behavior is repeated

    3.  Bully has more power or strength physically and/or emotionally

 

What does bullying look like?

    Physical hitting/ pushing/ tripping

    Verbal taunts/ rumors/ name calling

    Saying mean things or sending mean notes/ messages

    Repeatedly excluding others from your group.

Caney Valley Anti-Bullying Rules

1.  We will NOT bully others.

2.  We will try to help students who are bullied.

3.  We will try to include students who are left out.

4.  If we know that somebody is being bullied, we will tell an adult at school and at home.

OLWEUS has been provided through Project COPE which is a federal grant through the Elementary and Secondary School Counseling Program from the US Department of Education.
