Caney Valley 8th Graders Win OJABA Academic State Championship
Launch the media gallery 1 playerThe Caney Valley 8th grade academic team won the 2022 OJABA State championship Saturday at Dale Oklahoma. The Trojans were seeded 6th out of 16 teams. They beat Justus Tiawah 160-130, and Adair (4) 190-90 before losing to Silo (9) 200-240. The Trojans regrouped and didn't lose another game. They beat South Rock Creek (7) 170-160, Adair 310-220, Latta (3) 270-240, Silo 260-210 and then Silo again for the championship 220-180. The Trojans were led by Hayden T with 480 points and Noah R with 350. Jace Vi added 110 and Brodie H tallied 90. Ian T, Kelli C, and Cash W also contributed to the victory.
This is only the 3rd OJABA Middle School State Championship that the Trojans have won and is Coach Martha Ward's first. The two previous championships were in 2003 and 2004, and the teams were coached by Anita Prather
