Dear Families,

It is with deep sadness that we share the news that a student from our elementary school passed away last night as a result of a drowning.

This is an unimaginable loss, and our hearts are with the student’s family during this very difficult time. We ask that you please keep them in your thoughts and respect their privacy as they grieve.

We know news like this can be upsetting for children and adults alike. Our school counselors, Grand Mental Health Counselors, and support staff will be available to students and staff who may need help processing this loss.

Our focus at this time is on caring for our students, staff, and families with compassion and sensitivity. While the circumstances surrounding this incident are being handled by the appropriate authorities, our priority is supporting our school community as we navigate this together.

We are deeply saddened by this loss, and we extend our sincere condolences and our prayers to the student’s family and loved ones.

At this time we are not releasing any additional information.  We will provide updates when information becomes available and is officially released.  If you have questions or concerns about how best to support your child, please do not hesitate to reach out to your child’s school administration team.

Sincerely,

Steven D. Cantrell, Ed.D.
